~: Today I am going to tell you about how wild Pokémon evolves without being traded or used by evolutionary stones ;
So we know that evolved Pokémon exist in the wild. We also know that when Pokémon mate, they produce the lowest evolved form of themselves. Does this mean Pokémon evolve in the wild ? What about Pokémon that require a special condition like stones, friendship, trade, Etc ?
Lets look at a example :- In a few places, wild Steelix can be found. These places are caves with intense concentrations on metal. I believe that prolonged exposure to this metal ( or even ingestion of it ) is what leads to onix evolving in the wild. It's probably helped along by living in a high-stress environment ; the Pokémon want to evolve in order to survive. Trading the Pokémon while it holds a metal coat is simply a quick, compressed version of this slow, natural phenomenon.
Some Pokémon will only produce their least-evolved form through the use of incense. However, in some places these least-evolved forms can be found in the wild. Because of this, I believe that some environmental difference has caused this first form to be skipped. Perhaps in dangerous areas vulnerable first is an evolutionary disadvantage.
As for evolving from happiness in the wild, I believe it's done before the baby is ready to leave the nest, or perhaps as a signal that the baby can survive on its on. Most happiness evolutions in the wild are in baby Pokémon after all. For the few locations where the late happiness evolutions happen in the wild. I believe this speaks to an expectational environment, capable of sustaining groups of tight-knit Pokémon in order to keep them social.
